Hi! I’m Molly. I’ve spent the last eight years working in financial technology, building the financial infrastructure that allows companies like Square and Stripe to correctly state their assets and liabilities and ensure that the massive amounts of funds they move are going to the right place at the right time. It was fun, challenging work, but if you’re envisioning work that is mostly systems and numbers focused, you’d be correct!
But that’s not all of me. I’ve always had an artistic side. I write, draw, dance, and make ceramics. While my work satisfied my analytical side, I found my artistic side atrophying from years of neglect. In my line of business, I’ve also come across a shocking number of extremely bad tools — tools designed by engineers for operations folks that were never tested by the intended users. These tools made work harder and slowed everyone down. This made my eye twitch.
In 2020, finding myself with a wealth of time thanks to the pandemic, I enrolled in Designlab. My goal was to find a career in which I can utilize all the tools in my kit — my creativity, my knowledge of systems design and experience in leading operations, and my proclivity for solving for inefficiencies. Design checked all of those boxes! As a designer, I’m lead by curiosity and the willingness to observe and test. I want to use my design skills to reduce friction in the world.
